Frankfort Park Farm Brings Home Half-Sister To 'Rising Star' Englishman

Fee (hip 191), the half-sister to 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Englishman (Maxfield), became the top-selling broodmare out of Tuesday's Fasig-Tipton March Digital Sale when Frankfort Park Farm stepped up to $310,000 to purchase the 6-year-old daughter of Into Mischief.

A winner of over $150,000 on the track in 20 career starts, Fee was consigned by Michele Kuegler's Wasabi Ventures Sales as agent and sold in foal on an early cover to young Claiborne Farm stallion Mindframe, a breeding that only enhanced her value in the eyes of Frankfort Park Farm's Brendan Gallagher.

“I was able to go down to see the mare [Tuesday],” Gallagher said. “She reminded me a lot of a nice mare I purchased years ago. I'll buy a mare anywhere I can source her but it was good that we are close enough I could get over and see her. Mindframe was a really good fit for her. We have two or three other mares in foal to him and we're already a big supporter of the stallion so that breeding is a plus.”

Supplemented to the March Digital Sale Friday after Englishman's successful return to the track for trainer Cherie DeVaux earlier in the afternoon, Fee was the sale's second-highest hip sold despite being added to the sale nearly 24 hours after bidding had already opened.

“You always wish you could buy a horse for $100,000 less but, if the half-brother is able to go and prove himself and she has nice foals that go on and race, then she'll look like a great value,” Gallagher added.

The mare's owner, TK Kuegler of Wasabi Ventures, was equally enthusiastic given her late arrival to the sale.

“The Fasig-Tipton Digital platform is transforming the industry,” said TK Kuegler following the close of the sale Tuesday. “It is allowing buyers and sellers to work in a fast-paced marketplace. The Fasig-Tipton staff was amazing. We contacted them and they helped us move quickly to add Fee as a supplement. Anyone not selling on the platform is missing out.”
